On May 22, 2006, the ACLU of Illinois, on behalf of journalist Studs Terkel and members of the local legal, medical, political, and religious communities, filed a class action suit against AT&T for sharing customers' phone records and the contents of their communications with the NSA. This case was consolidated as part of the other cases in front of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in California.
