Send Evidence of Torture to the DOJ

We've uncovered more than 100,000 pages that show both that hundreds of prisoners were tortured in U.S. custody, and that the torture policies were devised and developed at the highest levels of the Bush administration -- yet there remains debate on whether or not the government will hold those who authorized torture accountable.

Make sure Attorney General Holder sees the evidence. Send him a selection from the thousands of pages of government documents that the ACLU has uncovered, and demand that the Justice Department appoint an independent prosecutor to investigate.

Signed by Rumsfeld, this directive authorized the use of extreme techniques against prisoners. In it, he jokes: "I stand for 8-10 hours a day. Why is standing limited to 4 hours?" This infamous legal memo by John Yoo narrowly defines torture as pain and suffering akin to "death, organ failure or permanent damage." Although "Enhanced techniques... the waterboard" are the only words on the page left unredacted, this memo still manages to convey chilling evidence of the secrecy-shrouded torture program. Crafted by Jay Bybee, this legal memo supplied the basis for the CIA's torture program... after the techniques had already been implemented.
